FORMER Commander of the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association

Kevin was the Commander of the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA), which serves the families and agencies when an officer has been killed or died in the line of duty anywhere in the state.  Kevin mets with spouses, family members, and department leaders to provide support following the sudden and tragic loss.

Since 1991, as one of sixteen original LEMA members, Kevin has: 

  • Served at over 40 Line of Duty Death funerals
  • Led Line of Duty Death Planning Teams for the following:
    • Officer Jason Meyer, Grand Meadow Police Department (1999)
    • Officer Mark Bedard, Minneapolis Park Police Department (2008)
    • Deputy Tony Fitzloff, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office (2009)
    • Officer Richard Crittenden, North Saint Paul Police Department (2009)
    • Reserve Deputy Mike Wilken, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office (2009)
    • Sergeant Joseph Bergeron, Maplewood Police Department (2010)
    • Deputy Christopher Dewey, Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office (2010)
    • Officer Mike Pollitz, Saint Louis Park Police Department (2011)
    • Officer Shawn Schneider, Lake City Police Department (2011)
    • Officer Tom Decker, Cold Spring/Richmond Police Department (2012)
    • Officer Josh Lynaugh, Saint Paul Police Department (2013)
    • Officer Scott Patrick, Mendota Heights Police Department (2014)
  • Kevin has also had the privilege of leading the Minnesota LEMA Honor Guard at events across the country, including performances at the:
    • National Police Week (2006 ) in Washington D.C. at the United States Capitol and National Law Enforcement Memorial, leading the Emerald Society Pipe Band parade and playing Taps at the Wreath laying ceremony
    • Mount Rushmore National Memorial, South Dakota (July 3 and 4, 2007)

In addition, Kevin also:

  • Created the Minnesota LEMA wreath laying ceremonies at the Minnesota State Capitol Law Enforcement Memorial
  • Co-created the “Walking the Blue Line” ceremonies at the Minnesota State Capitol Law Enforcement Memorial
  • Co-founded the Nightbeat 5k and 2 Mile run/walk to raise funds for the Rochester/Olmsted County Law Enforcement Memorial
